Campaign against animal circuses
Circus animals are subjected to the deprivation of freedom throughout their entire lives. The only moments when they are not locked up is when they are forced to leave to perform ridiculous tricks so spectators can be entertained. They live a live of solitude, sadness, beatings, and depression in a small space where they eat, sleep, urinate, and defecate. If they were free they would roam for kilometers, look for food, related with other animals, care for their children... Given the terrible suffering that they experience, from cages to chains and beatings, many get sick quickly, and when they cease being productive, they are abandoned, killed, sold, etc. Other animal species are not objects for entertainment. If you want to see what is behind circuses, Earthlings, contains powerful images.
The organization Igualdad Animal [Animal Equality] is beginning a campaign against animal circuses motivated by the arrival of the Circo Mundial [World Circus] to Madrid.
Madrid - Circuses are sold to us as magical, fun and original places and as such they are visited by many children and others who are also attracted by the animal that can be seen there. Unfortunately, in those circuses that utilize animals there exists another reality behind the bright colours of the bigtop, the smile of the clown and the feats of the jugglers... a reality full of suffering, deprivation, and death. The reality that these imprisoned animals (elephants, tigers, camels, etc.) suffer involves being transported from one city to the next, obligated to perform ridiculous tricks after months of hard training. They are condemned to spend their lives alone and sad.
The Gran Circo Mundial (Great World Circus) arrived at the Las Ventas bullfighting area (plaza de toros de las ventas) on the 26 of January, and within Igualdad Animal (Animal Equality) we will begin a strong campaign against the circus and the utilization of animals as entertainment next Saturday, the 3 of February at 15:30. Spread this announcement and please support and help us to end this sad reality.
